Logic SHE Solutions were appointed Principal Designer on this complex refurbishment and conversion of an existing central London office building into a luxury hotel.

Following our initial appointment following a partial collapse of the building we oversaw the initial making safe and reoccupation and were then closely involved in a further phase of stabilisation works to the structure before the major structural works involved in the design were able to commence.

We were heavily involved with the interactions between the authorities and the HSE following the incident. We took over the management of the making safe and recommisioning of area of the building that were to remain in occupation, after the building was handed back to the client following the emergency clean up by the local authority, and as a consequence are probably the only consultancy that can claim to have had their standards and procedures independently assessed and endorsed by the HSE.

Following the sale of the building to new owners Logic SHE Solutions have continued in the role providing the same services to the Client and working with the third (and final) Principal Contractor for the project.

Description of Works

Logic SHE Solutions were appointed Principal Designer for this new school project in Manchester and appointed as part of a framework agreement that had another three years to run.

The East Manchester Academy will opened in September 2010 to provide a state-of-the-art learning environment, initially with 180 places for Year 7 only, gradually building up to 900 pupils over the next five years.  The academy includes a purpose-built area for post-16 provision and will also house the new district library.

Principal Designate Guy Hutchence for The East Manchester Academy said: "The East Manchester Academy gives us the chance to lead the way in education in this part of the City and deliver a first-class high school, something that we have been planning to bring to our community for some time. Together with a district library, we will have a superb resource for learning and teaching and an excellent community amenity."

Councillor Sheila Newman, Executive Member Children’s Services, Manchester City Council, says: “The Manchester Academies programme is about more than building new schools, it will transform how we educate children across the city. The East Manchester Academy will be a wonderful addition to the community and an exciting place to learn with a wide and varied curriculum that will nurture the motivation, aspirations and achievements of all pupils.”

The academy is a centre of excellence for all disciplines relating to the built environment, from architecture and design to project management and ICT. It is will be housed in a purpose-built centre in Grey Mare Lane, Beswick.

Added Value

We developed an integrated approach to construction safety by having a fully coordinated strategy to assist the project develop. In the execution of this project Logic SHE Solutions provided ongoing support and assistance throughout the project supply chain including designers and client approved contractors.

Logic SHE Solutions were also appointed Principal Designer on three other projects in this framework agreement.

Description of Works

The Loyds TSB YSD Project involved approximately 1,000 Banks nationally being refurbished with new corporate branding throughout the United Kingdom. At least 50% remained occupied and open to the public throughout the works.

Logic SHE Solutions provided the entire team of CDM Coordinators for Wales, South West England (which stretched from Portsmouth up to Oxford across to Worcester and down to Lands End).

We were responsible for advising on the delivery and supporting a totally integrated safety management system in partnership with all the project’s participants.

Logic SHE Solutions also provided key personnel in the development and implementation of stand alone documents on behalf of the client to ensure smooth delivery of the project.
